For this month’s Team Member Spotlight, we are excited to recognize Monica Matta, who was recently selected as the 2019 CO10 of the year! As Vice President of Operations and Delivery, Monica oversees all customers, ensures timely and accurate delivery of COTA’s data and tech offerings, and builds scalable processes as COTA grows. She brings passion and determination to COTA’s client relationships alongside her dedicated and growing team.

In her spare time, Monica likes finding adventure! She has been to over 30 countries and is perpetually seeking her next travel experience. When she’s home, she makes a point of enjoying NYC’s best restaurants, coaching new Americans on their English language skills, visiting animals at the ASPCA, and fitting in a barre class whenever she can.

If you want to learn more about Monica, why she decided to join COTA and why her job is important to her, keep reading…

Why did you decide to join the COTA team?

For me – coming to COTA was not a hard sell. It had everything I was looking for in a job, and many things I wanted, but never considered I could actually find. It was exciting for me to get to be part of a deeply mission-driven company that was working hard to build something and really revolutionize the way cancer care is delivered. It was a place I knew I could make an impact and be around people who would inspire me daily.

“Throughout my 35-year career in healthcare, a person as gifted as Monica has only come around less than a handful of times.” – Mike Doyle, CEO, COTA

Why do you like working for COTA?

It’s the first time in my life I’ve never gotten the “Sunday scaries.” Yes, work can be tough – we are trying to solve some pretty big problems here – but we’re doing it together…and we’re succeeding! We push ourselves, we laugh every day, we put the good of the company first, and we have incredible and unconditional support for one another. That’s pretty unbeatable.

“She is exceedingly hard-working, optimistic, creative, inclusive, open-minded, articulate, knowledgeable, conscientious, committed, inspirational, and a tremendously positive role model for members of her team, peers, and the company and industry at large.” – Andrew Norden, CMO, COTA

What would you like to tell someone who is considering a job in the oncology space? Why is your job important to you?

Every one of us at COTA is inspired by the ways our own lives have been touched by cancer. My own father was diagnosed with cancer about 15 years ago. As a kid growing up, you think your dad is unbreakable, and the news of those impossible odds hit me in a way I did not expect. I was inspired by his strength, faith, and fortitude, and by the support of his community. Fifteen years later, my father is the same unbreakable man and his cancer is a distant memory. In more than a few ways, he is why COTA matters so much to me. When we come to work, we are working for our families and for our friends – people who need these answers in life-altering ways. For that, I am incredibly proud.

“At COTA, our mission is to transform cancer care so every patient gets the right treatment at the right time. One of the most inspirational aspects of Monica as a leader is how she centers around mission. Almost everything that she does inside and outside of work is to make a difference.” – Vivek Kumar, SVP Operations and Delivery, COTA
